Season 09/10 - Under 9

Under 9's played their first match at the fantastic sports venue at Beversbrook, Calne today and celebrated the unveiling of their new Nike kit, courtesy of the Football Foundation, with a 1-0 victory. Colts soon adjusted to the wide playing surface, with some great interchanging and movement off the ball and were rewarded in the 15th minute, when Matthew intercepted a pass out from the goalkeeper, cut inside and finished low in the bottom corner. Alex had a commanding match and made some fine tackles in a competitive opening 20 minutes but it was fellow defensive stalwart, Joshua, who came closest to adding another when his long range effort struck the upright and despite several other chances the score remained 0-1 at half-time. Daniel and Eddie replaced James and Alex in the second half and on 31 minutes, Luca showed brilliant vision and awareness to send Matthew through, only for his shot to be well saved by the Calne 'keeper. Eddie set the ball back, a minute later for Luca to strike first time, only for the Calne goalie to make another smart save and despite creating several clear-cut chances for Jimmy, Eddie and the impressive Matthew, Colts were nearly made to pay, when in the last minute a goalmouth scramble resulted in a great block from the Colts own number 1, Alec. It was a well-earned three points but the boys realise they will have to take more of the opportunities they create in future.

MoM. Matthew- like Asda, he rolled back the years, with a dominant display from the left side of midfield.
