Under 9 v Chippenham Town Youth Print
Season 09/10 - Under 9

With a weekend free of League and Cup commitments, it was an opportunity to blood some of the boys in a friendly against CTY at Castle Combe. Colts got off to a great start, when Edward chased a loose backpass and ran on to tuck the ball away within 10 seconds. Jay added some steel on the right and with James in an unfamiliar role of central midfield they ensured that CTY were largely camped inside their own half. The pressure took its toll and on 10, Edward finished with a fine strike from the corner of the penalty box after good work from James. Charlie and Ben came on soon after and it was Ben who added to the tally with a tidy finish at the far post on 15 minutes. Josh B was having a great game at the back and made some crunching tackles, as CTY tried to get back into the match.A break from the edge of their own area saw James run almost the length of the pitch, when Charlie was well placed for an early pass and clean run on goal. However, it was a tremendous first half from James who has impressed with his improving awareness and reading of the game.

Dan and Alex were proving a solid partnership in defence but in a counter attack near half time, Sebastian saved low and showed great bravery to smother the ball at the feet of the Chippenham forward to keep the score at 3-0. Alec replaced Sebastian at the interval and was soon in the thick of the action as the boys struggled to keep possession despite some neat passing from Tom and Jacob on the left and Chippenham eventually made the Colts pay with a good finish on 30. With 2 minutes to go, another free run on goal, saw CTY peg the boys back to 3-2 and in United-style injury time, a succession of corners by the visitors, (when even Joseph the goalie came up!) proved to no avail, as the boys held on resolutely for the win. A good performance, played in an excellent spirit by players of both sides.

MoM - Alex, a brilliant display in the heart of defence and almost grabbed a goal too.
