U9 League Cup CCCFC 2 -1 (aet) Trowbridge Town C Print
Season 09/10 - Under 9

U9's played their first match since November on Saturday and were made to work hard for their win, requiring Extra Time and 2 Eddie Swain goals to make it to the Quarter-final. Colts created numerous chances but through a combination of superb Goalkeeping and woeful finishing, they struggled to despatch a spirited Trowbridge. The boys started well enough and controlled long periods of the game but had to wait 'til the 8th minute for Eddie to slot home after good work from Jimmy. Dan lined up in defence with Joshua G and was able to display his full range of passing skills, combining well with Luca on the right side. Jay came on for Jimmy in the 10th minute and nearly added another but his shot flew wide of the post and James was unfortunate to see his effort come back off the post, in one of the rare occasions that the Trowbridge 'keeper got his angles wrong. On 20', Matthew made a trademark run from midfield and unselfishly set James up but the Town goalie was there to thwart the home team once again. Alex and Joseph began the second half and although the boys in black and white created a series of golden opportunities, they were made to pay in the 37th minute, when from a Trowbridge corner, a shot looped over Sebastian into the corner of the net. Joseph replaced the injured number 1 and it looked like he might be facing a penalty shoot-out due to the teams' profligacy in front of goal, however Eddie raced through 6 minutes from time and tucked the Colts umpeenth chance away, thus saving their Managers from a few more grey hairs. Through to the next round but huge improvement needed to progress further.

MoM. The Trowbridge 'keeper was in excellent form but on an out of sorts day for the U9's, Joshua just edged the Colts award with some brilliant defensive work.
