Under 9's made their debut in the top flight on Saturday and learnt the harsh realities of life in Division 1, when on the receiving end of a 5-1 defeat. Eddie had hit the side netting in the first minute after carving out an opportunity for himself but it was the familiar story of missed chances that the boys were left to rue. FC Chippenham settled down , playing some great football and nearly scored in the 3rd minute but a long range effort was brilliantly turned wide by 'keeper Alec. Chippenham raced into a 2-0 lead within 10 minutes as both sides began to trade counter attacks but when Joshua B came on to partner Alex in defence the midfield triumvirate of Jimmy, Matthew and Luca began to dominate, creating a plethora of openings. James moved to centre forward and within 60 seconds of the restart pulled a goal back, after Matthew hit the post. On 26', the influential Jimmy headed over from a Luca corner and when  Matthew went through moments later, it looked like he might pull Colts level but he dragged his shot wide. It wasn't all oneway traffic though and Chippenham were going toe-to-toe in a pulsating encounter. Joshua B gained in confidence as the match wore on and coupled some great challenges with accurate short and long passing from the back, where him and Alex were defending superbly. Joseph replaced Luca on 30 minutes and was unfortunate to see a Chippenham corner fly in off his nose to put the Colts 3-1 behind and although the team battled from start to finish, they just didn't have enough left in the tank. Kyle was on hand to apply the finish to a good Chippenham move and make it 5-1 in stoppage time and although the scoreline wasn't a fair reflection of the game, it was a valuable lesson for the boys that against the best teams, they will get punished for constantly missing good chances.
