U9's CCCFC 0 - 1 Devizes Town Youth (A) Print
Season 09/10 - Under 9

Under 9's played host to Devizes Town A on Saturday allowing Paul to rotate squad members as Colts went in search of a win in their last home game of the Season. Attacking down the famous sloping pitch, the team started brightly with James as Captain, sending Eddie away in the opening minutes but his effort went just wide of the post. On 12', Tom won the ball in midfield and his pass released Eddie again, only to be thrawted by the Devizes defence when he seemed almost certain to score. Alec in goal, aided by some strong tackling and good positional work from Alex and Dan in defence, ensured the Colts went into the break at 0-0. Charlie replaced Tom at halftime and smoothly slotted into the leftside as Colts tried to build on a promising first half display and almost immediately, a trademark lung-bursting run from Jimmy down the wing saw his cross agonizingly eluding the onrushing James and Eddie. In the 25th minute a long pass from Dan sent Eddie clear again but his shot was blocked by the Town 'keeper. The Home team were gaining in confidence but the goal just wouldn't come as James' corner flew across the penalty area and through a crowd of players Then on 32', a classic sucker punch, when from a Devizes corner, Alec parried the ball ,only for the visitor's centre forward to stab the loose ball in. Tom came back on as the boys in black piled forward in search of a deserved equaliser and a promising move involving Alex, James and Jimmy was brought to an abrupt end only by the Visitor's Goalkeeper clear foul on the edge of the penalty box. From the resulting freekick, Dan's curling effort round the wall, flew just wide wide of the post and despite a fantastic allround team effort, Colts ran out of time to find the equaliser their performance merited.

MoM. Dan - a confident and inspired effort.
