NWL U12 Cup: CCCFC Whites 2 Shrivenham & Watchfield 4 (AET) Print
Season 15/16 - Under 12 White

Shrivenham H

A misty Castle Combe Sportsfield played host to a cup clash with Shrivenham & Watchfield

The Whites’ proud run of cup final appearances will not be extended in the spring after they bowed out of the North Wilts League’s knockout competition at the last-16 stage.
Winners of the Mid-Wilts League Cup in 2014 and double finalists in the North Wilts and Wiltshire County showpieces last term, the Colts faced a stern test in the shape of Division 1 rivals Shrivenham & Watchfield and came up short in extra-time.
The additional half-hour, played in increasingly foggy conditions at the sportsfield, saw the visitors score twice to exact revenge on a Colts side who knocked them out in the quarter-finals a year ago.
A very disappointing first half ended with the hosts trailing by a solitary goal, thanks mainly to some excellent work from Max between the posts.
Toby’s superb free-kick levelled the scores and when Tom struck after a ball into the area from Matthew – who completed the 5k Battle of Lansdown hours earlier – the Colts were in front.
As has been the case too many times already this season, they allowed their opponents to reply quickly and the scores were level at 2-2 at the final whistle.
Despite a hard-working performance from Liam up front, the Colts were outmuscled all over the pitch and – a 15-minute spell in the second half apart – failed to keep the ball well enough when in possession.
An emphatic penalty put Shrivenham ahead for the second time in the match and they made sure of a deserved victory in the second extra period.
The Colts will look to give a better account of themselves in second and third instalments of the ‘trilogy’ – back-to-back home and away league meetings with Shrivenham that take place over the next fortnight.
