NWL U14 Croft 1 CCCFC White 6 Print

I ended my last report with 'onwards and upwards'. This was indeed that - a special performance in the teeth of a freezing wind which showed great character as well as skill.

Right from the start, our lads established a vice like grip on the game and didnt slacken that grasp until the game had been won-which was some time during the middle of the second half. Our lads treated Croft with the respect they deserve but we also knew this was a chance to get a win and avenge a particularly painful 5-0 pasting that Croft meted out to us in the second game of the season!

Archie won and coverted a penalty, to make it 1-0. Jacob glanced home Louies inviting corner prior to Louie then to score a great third. We were flying. With Jacob and Alex maintaining running the game, Archie was able to a fourth with a flourish. It was only 15 minutes into the game! We still had time to have two disalllowed and miss several easy chances in this stellar half.

The second half was more even but contained some great moves involving Jay, Zac, Max, Felix, Nathan, JoeN and Joe P - I really feel this is the game we arrived as a Div 1 side building on some increasingly great performances in recent times.

Lucas got the goal he so deserved midway through the half, soon after Louie had notched with a superbly worked goal. 6-0. Max played well in goal when called upon and it was disappointing (but in a way understandable) that we gave away our clean sheet very late in the game when we slackened off and got too loose.

The man of the match trophy could have gone to anyone and certainly Jacob, Alex, Lucas and Louie would have been worthy winners. Alan convinced me however, that the energy that Archie put into a hardrunning display was enough to clinch him the award.

Well done everyone
