CASTLE COMBE COLTS ARE FA PEOPLES CUP CHAMPIONS Print

peoples cup

Our U14 squad entered this competition on Friday night and ventured to the big metropolis to try their luck in the Bristol North Region. We only play 5 a side when playing futsal really - so it took a while to get ourselves spatially sorted and into our game formation. It took 45 seconds actually, by which time we conceded our only goal of the round robin round against Portishead. We were 1-0 down before we knew it!

We came back very strongly though in that first game and eventually carved out a well deserved 2-1 win. The next 4 games were a bit more straight forward:

Frampton - W 10-0

Cheltenham W 7-0

OdemChickenWingies (Stoke Gifford) W 5-0

We had therfore won the group stage and had to play 4th placed Frampton in a semi-final. We triumphed 4-0 to clinically take our place in the final.

Portishead (our opponents in that first game) awaited us in a final pitting the two best teams in the competition against each other as it should be. Our lads had been quick, strong, clinical and disciplined all night. They were starting to get a bit tired though (it was about 9pm) and soon went 1-0 down, RESPONSE? Bang - we replied through Alex.

Then 2-1 down, RESPONSE? Straight away Cameron got us back level.

We went 3-2 down, RESPONSE? Without delay Alex got us back on terms again. The game ended 3-3 - a thriller. What character - Penalties!

Archie 1-0 / They missed -1-0 / Alex scored 2-0 / so did they - 2-1 /Cameron scored 3-1.

CHAMPIONS! Next regional round is at bristol South on Mar 24th. Well done lads - you were fantastic

The finals are held at Wembley shortly before the FA Cup Final.

Squad - Aaron, Joe, Nathan, Alex (c),  Louie, Cameron, Joe, Aaron, Archie. We scored 31 goals on the night with Archie top scoring with 12. Nathan was our player of the tournament as the improvement of these and the rest of our squad continues unabated.
