MWL U9 Zone D - Worton & Cheverell Wizards v CCCFC Blacks Print

U9B POPPY

An early morning trip through the back roads and fields of Wiltshire brought the Colts to Worton & Cheverell for what turned out to be a very enjoyable, competitive and end-to-end match.

With the presentation of the new “anthem jackets” to the team prior to the game, the Blacks looked and felt the part. Adding to this, the beautiful gesture from the club of the poppies on the shirt was warmly received (and the meaning discussed at great length) by the players who wore their poppies with immense pride.

Prior to kick-off, the one minute silence was impeccably observed by all in attendance.

Both keepers were tremendous today, especially one outstanding save by Riley K

Solid from Ruby, Thomas & Scarlet at the back - which allowed the endeavour of Otis, Oliver, Ruben & Harry.

Ethan & Riley N continue to put away the chances created by the midfield quartet.

On a day when remembering our fallen took priority, it was so good to see two sets of kids thoroughly enjoying a great game of football played with great spirit.

Thank you to Worton & Cheverell also for being great hosts (and their coach, who refereed and was very encouraging to both sides throughout the game - especially one great tackle from Rocket Ruby). They made a very long journey worthwhile and for that we thank them.
