DESERVED HONOUR FOR CLUB LEGEND Print

Dave Lewis

Colts legend David Lewis was recognised for 15 years of dedication to the club and football in the county in the FA and McDonald’s Grassroots Awards 2020.

David, who led last year’s U18s from their MiniKickers days right through to the end of their youth football career, has also served the club as Respect ambassador, sportsfield manager, kit manager and chairman.

He was named as the runner-up in the Wiltshire FA’s Volunteer of the Year category.

The awards celebrate individuals, teams, clubs, projects, leagues and volunteers who put their heart and soul into the grassroots game and inspire us all.

Trevor Newman, who succeeded David as Colts chairman and worked alongside him as secretary, said: “The longevity, consistency and quality of Dave’s coaching and administration mean he is fully deserving of this recognition.

“He is an exceptional coach, so popular with his players many of whom have been with him for 14-plus years! It is his values, hard work and tenacity that sets him apart though.

“He has role modelled getting higher coaching qualifications. He has improved our club through his work in all roles.

“His teams play in the right way and with the right behaviours and values. He is passionate about the game but knows where the boundaries are and how to conduct himself. He doesn’t take the easy route, but always finds the right one. “It’s been a pleasure to work alongside him for so long.”
