U7: AFC Corsham tournament |
Season 10/11 - Under 7 |
The half-term holiday meant two new-look under-7s teams represented Castle Combe Colts at the AFC Corsham tournament. In conditions that contrasted sharply with the heatwave enjoyed by players in the even-numbered age groups the previous day, the Whites and Blacks were left high but far from dry when their respective opening opponents from Frome Town failed to show up. The Blacks, driven on by midfield dynamo Matthew R, got off to a great start against Westbury as debutant Sam C lashed the ball home from long range inside the first minute. Bradley grabbed a late second and later ensured the team signed off in style with a thumping strike against FC Chippenham. Sam H also marked his first appearance in the stripes with a fine goal against Melksham and two great goalkeeping displays, while fellow newcomer Daniel and Theo were strong at the back. The Blacks also came up against eventual Fair Play Award winners ASC, who proved skilful and tough opponents. Defensive rock Josh impressed yet again for the Whites, who were unlucky to be drawn in a strong group that included the best side either Colts team faced all morning – Oxford-based outfit Kennington Athletic. They also took on another side who had made a long trek to Wiltshire in the shape of Havant & Waterlooville, from Hampshire, together with Frome Collegians and Stratton Juniors. Captain Brandon led by example with some tireless work, Max produced some fantastic saves and Will and James battled throughout. Finlay and Charlie gained their first taste of match action and both acquitted themselves very well. |
