The under-8s picked up after the summer break from where they left off last term in a rare midweek outing away to FC Chippenham’s North Wilts League squad. Up against a strong team and without a training session under their belts, the Colts set the standard for the rest of the season with a consistent display across all four quarters at Stanley Park. Joe found the net four times but also showed tremendous vision throughout and set up Matthew R for the second of his brace and the goal of the game, a thumping volley into the top corner from outside the area. James threw off his defensive shackles to score the visitors’ other goal, while Matty S and Bradley were unfortunate not to add their names to the scoresheet. George and Brandon were real driving forces in midfield and Luke was composed and solid at the back. Four players – Luke, Bradley, George and Matty S – shared the goalkeeping duties and all kept clean sheets. A great evening was rounded off by a penalty shoot-out, in which the Chippenham players particularly impressed with some German-like precision from the spot. |
