U8: Bradford Town v CCCFC Print
Season 11/12 - Under 8
In weather more suited to summer tournaments than an early-October league openers, the under-8s travelled to Bradford on Avon RFC for three fixtures.
The Whites kicked off a glorious morning with a superb display against Bradford Town’s Tigers team. The lively Matty S continued his early-season splurge by opening the scoring before going on to finish the game with five goals. After creating a host of chances before the break, his partner-in-crime Joe went one better and found the net six times in the second half, a haul that included a couple of trademark crackers from outside the box.
But it was far from a two-man show and Brandon and Rowan showed plenty of tenacity in support of the flying frontmen, with Josh and James producing some crunching tackles to break up Bradford’s attacks.
The Blacks poured forward from the first whistle against the home club’s Lions team and only a combination of the goalframe and some heroic Bradford defending and goalkeeping prevented them from tripling their final tally.
Max’s powerful front-running saw him score four times and the contest was rounded off by captain Luke’s precise finish from distance. Bradley claimed an unwanted hat-trick – hitting the post three times – and the all-action Matthew R was also desperately unlucky not to finish the game with his name on the scoresheet. George’s fancy footwork paved the way for a number of chances in a solid team effort and he also mopped up any danger at the back.
Despite the unseasonal temperatures soaring towards 28C and having no substitutes to call upon, the Colts team for the final match of the morning gave a tireless performance. It was a game of firsts, with skipper Daniel getting off the mark for the club with a fine finish and newcomer Caleb showing his versatility in a promising debut. Luca’s pace and skill proved a more than useful asset both going forward and in defence and Jacob made some timely interventions at the back before going close to notching at the other end.
