U8: Westbury Youth v CCCFC Print
Season 11/12 - Under 8
After the goal avalanche of the previous two weeks, the under-8s squad were given two tough workouts by hosts Westbury Youth.
A very tight pitch made for some nail-biting, end-to-end action throughout but both the Whites and the Blacks passed their most difficult assignments of the season to date with flying colours.
Up first, at practically the crack of dawn, were the Whites, who traded a number of goals with Westbury’s A team in a fast and furious start to the morning before really finding their form going down the slope in the second half.
Keeper Rowan pulled off some cracking saves to foil a lively home attack, who were also halted by the determination of Josh and James. Joe gave another outstanding display, taking one for the team by neutralising the threat of Westbury’s dangerman while also helping himself to another four goals. Matty S grabbed yet another hat-trick and Brandon produced a great finish at a crucial point in proceedings.
The Blacks were short on numbers but not on effort when they took on Westbury B.
A bright start saw Bradley opened the scoring before captain Max, who later starred in defence, notched a double. Westbury responded well and had the Colts under the cosh for a spell, netting twice in as many minutes, but were largely kept at bay by Luke, who solidered on bravely throughout the 40 minutes, and stand-in keeper Brandon.
George was the unfortunate recipient of a few stray Westbury boots but his clever running and footwork was rewarded with a fine second-half goal, while Bradley netted twice more to complete his hat-trick. Caleb did well in support of the attack and also produced some timely challenges.
