U8: CCCFC Blacks v FC Calne Panthers |
Season 11/12 - Under 8 |
The under-8s Blacks did themselves proud when they came up against a strong FC Calne Panthers side at an icy Castle Combe. Although containing the visitors’ star player proved a tough task at times, the Colts stuck to their guns well and all seven boys played a full part in a gritty, battling performance. Max grabbed a couple of memorable first-half goals, the first coming via a post after he had hit the bar and the second a fine header from Matthew’s fabulous free-kick. Luke made a couple of brilliant saves – one with his face – in the first period before halting Calne with some strong challenges in the second. The dependable Daniel also defended excellently, while George’s determination saw him add a late third goal for the home side. Matthew and Bradley were denied by both the woodwork and Calne’s outstanding goalkeeper, who made a string of stops to keep the hosts at bay, and Josh M both tackled and distributed the ball well in an encouraging display. While the Blacks managed to play their game against Calne, the Whites’ planned fixture with the visitors’ Pumas team earlier in the morning was called off due to a frozen pitch. Luca, Josh R, Rowan, James and Tom all deserve credit for the way they dealt with the disappointment and will no doubt be looking forward to their return to action at Marshfield next Saturday. |
