U8: Marshfield Jnrs v CCCFC Print
Season 11/12 - Under 8
Marshfield’s two well-drilled teams provided another excellent test for the Castle Combe Colts U8s squad.
Matty S opened the scoring for the Whites when his corner entered the net via a deflection and he turned provider for the second goal, with his fine pass swept into the roof of the net by Brandon. With the wind behind them, the impressive visitors always looked threatening in the second half and Matty scored again before the all-action Joe grabbed a deserved goal.
Rowan again provided a safe pair of hands in goal, Josh and James did well in the face of some lively forward play from Marshfield and Luca and Tom worked hard in midfield.
The Blacks failed to gain the reward some of their build-up play deserved in a frenetic and exciting clash.
Marshfield broke the deadlock in fortuitous fashion after some brave goalkeeping from Bradley had kept them at bay and it took a thunderous effort that went in off the bar to beat second-half custodian Luke.
With Daniel and George doing their defensive duties well, Colts were on the front foot for much of the game. Toby marked his debut with some nifty footwork and strikers Max and Alex were unlucky not to break through. In the end it was Matthew, who got off his sickbed to play, who finally found the target with a typically confident finish following a strong solo run.
