U9: Highworth Floodlit Tournament Print
Season 11/12 - Under 9 Blacks & Whites

Due to a bizarre decision from the Coach - the lads had to play a tournament on the same day they had a league game. Luckily, they were able to prove their fitness, commitment, attitude and team spirit in a performance that had that same coach purring with pride.

Late pull outs unfortunately meant that we arrived with a bare 7 - this seemed to only bind the team together. In the first game against Rodborough - Josh, Zac and Louie were to the fore in a thrilling display of attacking. How we never scored amazes me. We unbelievably conceded a goal against the run of play and run out of time in getting it back. This was remarkably familiar to the way this mornings league game went so the lads could have been excused for letting their heads drop - not a bit of it....

Our toughest game was against Croft. They were good, AND BIG. With the skills contest even - they started to push our lads around. An infectious spirit went through the team and the entire squad started digging in (firm but fair). Zac was on the end of some rough treatment, but once he curled his bottom lip back in, he went back for more - showing great commitment to his team-mates. Croft scored a goal reminiscent of John Barnes at the Maracana but Archie delivered justice at last by hitting a well deserved equaliser.

Archie went on the ramapage in the last game and looked back to his lethal best. He bagged a brace in quick time and was unlucky not to notch a few more. This was a really comfortable game but the football in a game where Josh W, Joseph and Jayden were absolutely flawless - was exceptional. We even provided the comedy moment when one of our defenders mistook the ball for an oval one and called for a 'Mark' in the penalty area - wrong game JJ (dont listen to your dad)!

Glad we went - thanks to the parents for their unstinting support.
