U8: CCCFC v FC Chippenham |
Season 11/12 - Under 8 |
Two games against a strong and well-drilled FC Chippenham squad proved a really good learning experience for the under-8s. Playing on a bigger pitch in preparation for next season and in two unfamiliar line-ups, the boys’ fitness and teamwork was tested in two close contests. Both matches were games of two halves, with the slope and wind having a huge part to play. In the first game, the Colts failed to build on the start given to them by Max’s close-range finish and came under the cosh from a cohesive Chippenham unit, who soon found the net themselves and were only denied more goals by the woodwork and some magnificent goalkeeping from Luke. It was not all one-way traffic, though, and Bradley’s volley grazed an upright while Matty S was always a danger going forward. Midfielders Joe and Matthew R produced some lovely touches and set-pieces but came up against a disciplined visiting back-line, while George and Brandon both did their defensive duties well. The Colts were not intimidated by a larger Chippenham side in the second game and were unlucky not to find the net during a brave and sustained second-half rally. Tom’s strong running from midfield was a feature of the hosts’ play and he was backed up by Toby’s close control and skill. Luca covered plenty of ground in a really energetic performance and he assisted captain Josh and Caleb, with all three making some terrific challenges. James and Rowan both made good saves, with the latter also tackling tigrishly when he moved outfield. Dylan and Alex found space well in the opponents’ box and went close to finishing off their team-mates’ approach play. |
