U8: CCCFC v Marshfield Juniors Print
Season 11/12 - Under 8
The under-8s squad did themselves and their coaches proud after raising their game in two typically close contests with visiting Marshfield.
Mixed-ability games between the sides have been well-matched over the past couple of seasons and supporters were treated to yet another exciting morning at a soggy Combe as the hosts coped superbly in the absence of some key players.
Luke was an absolute colossus in the first game, driving his side forward from midfield and powering three angled drives into the corner of the net to complete a thoroughly deserved hat-trick. He was supported out wide by the lively Toby, Alex and Josh M, who was unlucky not to score in a fine performance.
Bradley’s shot proved too hot to handle for the keeper as he pitched in with the Colts’ other goal and he also hit the post. Tom and Rowan were rock solid at the back, dealing brilliantly with Marshfield’s pacy counter-attacking threat, and were backed up by a confident goalkeeping display from Max.
Colts created a hatful of chances in the second game as wave as wave of attack had the away side on the back foot.
Some tremendous goalkeeping from the Marshfield number one thwarted them on numerous occasions, although the influential Max thumped home a penalty via an upright and Brandon tucked away an excellent pass from James.
Skipper George’s energetic running and close control caused plenty of problems and Dylan showed plenty of determination alongside him in midfield.
At the back, Luca and Josh R were both quick and strong, while Luke provided a safe pair of hands in goal.
