U9 Orange Division: Frome Town 0 CCCFC Whites 2 Print
Season 12/13 - Under 9 Black & White
The Whites ground out a scrappy 2-0 away victory over battling Frome Town thanks to a goal in each half.
Faced with a wall of six red defenders and an excellent goalkeeper for the duration of the contest, the Colts failed to make their passes stick and were frustrated at almost every turn on a tight pitch.
Matthew, Josh and Bradley pushed forward well from midfield in the first period and the deserved opener finally came when Luke stabbed a loose ball into an empty net just before the break. Toby and Tom’s defensive work ensured a resolute Frome side were seldom given a sniff of goal at the other end.
Brandon and George tested the busy Frome defence with some great footwork in the second period and the visitors doubled their advantage when Tom continued his goalscoring run with a shot from the edge of the box. Max almost connected spectacularly with a couple of corners, while Brandon twice went agonisingly close to adding to the Colts’ lead.
While the hosts had few attacks and little possession, they certainly showed the Colts a thing or two about teamwork. The Whites will look for a quick to return to their best form with tough home matches against Bradford and Trowbridge, in the cup and league respectively, coming up.
