U9 League Cup: CCCFC Whites 1 Westbury Youth Lions 0 Print
Season 12/13 - Under 9 Black & White
The Whites negotiated another tough obstacle in the League Cup as Bradley’s late goal and a great defensive effort earned victory over Westbury Youth Lions on a frosty morning at Castle Combe.
A tall and physical Westbury side posed many questions of the hosts on a wide pitch but the Colts stuck to their task as an immense performance from Josh and the tireless running and harrying of Matthew helped them book a quarter-final place.
While Westbury were always dangerous with the scoreline blank, Colts carved out the game’s best chances and were thwarted time and again by a visiting keeper in majestic form. Bradley was denied three times in the first period, while George, Matthew and Max all forced the Westbury number one into action after the break.
First and second-half keepers Max and Tom dealt well with everything that came their way and both kicked confidently in tricky conditions.
Luke and Toby made numerous tackles and used the ball sensibly to keep the Colts on top in the midfield battle and the home pressure finally told when Bradley found himself in space and finished confidently with two minutes to go.
After seeing off another high-flying Green Division side in Bradford Town Panthers in extra-time in the previous round, Colts are now looking forward to finding out what awaits them in the last eight.
