U9 Division 1: CCCFC Whites 1 Melksham Utd Hurricanes 0 Print
Season 12/13 - Under 9 Black & White

The Whites got off the mark at the third attempt in Division 1 with a morale-boosting home win over Melksham.
A solid performance throughout the side secured the team’s first clean sheet in a league game since early October and meant George’s second goal in as many games was enough to earn three welcome and deserved points.
With Bradley terrorising Melksham’s right flank through some dazzling wing play and Tom typically pacy and direct on the opposite side of the field, the Colts started on the front foot and fashioned a number of first-half openings.
Their shots continued to lack conviction, though, and they had only George’s scrambled effort, which went in via a post, to show for their efforts at the break.
Melksham upped their game in the second half and Bradley, having taken over the gloves from the equally assured Max, did well to hold an early strike from distance.
Luke, Josh and Brandon made some strong tackles and distributed the ball coolly from the back, while Matthew gave an energetic performance in the centre of the park and dropped deeper to help his defence in the closing stages.
Max and Tom were a handful in attack but the Colts were unable to find a way past Melksham’s excellent keeper for a second time. Matthew was denied after a mazy late dribble took him clear of the defence, before the visiting number one pulled off an even better stop to push away Luke’s powerful drive in the last action of the match.
The win was just what the doctor ordered for the Whites, who are now looking forward to the challenge of taking on Trowbridge Town Lions in the League Cup semi-finals at Leafy Lane next Saturday (2.30pm).
