U10 League Cup: CCCFC Whites 1 FC Bath Blue 0 Print
Season 13/14 - Under 10 White

The Whites will take part in the Mid-Wilts League Cup semi-finals weekend for the second year running after a battling performance from all ten squad members helped claim the scalp of Blue Division rivals FC Bath Blue.
Twice postponed during the prolonged period of wet weather, the eagerly-awaited last-eight tie finally went ahead on a decent surface at Castle Combe as both sides sampled action on grass for the first time since December 15.
League newcomers Bath went into the clash unbeaten in all competitions this term, having inflicted the sole blemish on the Whites’ proud record in a 3-2 victory at the sportsfield in November.
A gusty wind blowing across the pitch made life tricky for both sets of players as they looked to shake off the cobwebs and neither looked particularly sharp in the opening stages.
The Colts certainly had the better of the first half, however, and grabbed what proved to be the winner when Matthew dribbled across the box from the right, beat a couple of men with some great close control and coolly slotted the ball past a helpless Bath keeper.
Luke and Matthew allowed Bath little time to settle with some tenacious play in the middle of the park, while out wide Bradley and Tom impressed with their positional awareness and willingness to both defend and get forward in support of the attack.
Toby and George fought hard to win possession and tested Bath with their dribbling skills, Brandon H used the ball intelligently and Brandon M’s pace and determination up front stretched the visiting defence.
The latter was denied by the keeper’s legs after breaking through on goal in the second half, while Matthew and Toby also threatened to double the Colts’ lead and Bradley sent over a couple of dangerous corners that just evaded his team-mates in the danger area.
A talented Bath side boasting some exceptional players were never out of the contest, however, and they continued to push the Colts further and further back up the slope as the game wore on and tension in the home camp grew by the minute.
However, keeper Max was in magnificent form and advanced from his goal to thwart a one-on-one chance while also giving his defence – marshalled well by the dependable Josh and, later, Luke – plenty of confidence with some exemplary handling whenever the ball entered the Colts box.
The final whistle was greeted with relief by the home faithful. It was far from a classic encounter, but the jubilant Colts had put down an excellent marker and will relish the opportunity to try and go at least one better than they did 12 months ago when the semis take place at Leafy Lane next month.
