Calne Falcons V's Castle Combe Colts U9's Whites |
Season 14/15 - Under 9 White |
With a nice early start in the rain at Calne, the kids, coaches and parents were all excited about this match. Calne always bring some fierce competition and today was no exception. Calne started strong out of the gate within the first few minutes testing Castle Combes goalkeeper, William. The test was passed with flying colours as will takes a hold of two fantastic shots by Calnes attack. During the first ten minutes of the match Calne looked very strong with one touch passing and great accurate shooting. Pretty much on the ten minute mark a corner was taken my Matty of Castle combe. beautifully defended by Calne, only for Ryan to send a curler off of his left foot with one touch in to the top left corner of the net after bouncing off the head of a Calne defender. It was then the turn of the Colts to go on the offensive. They had clearly been listening to Rik and Darren in training with some fast one touch passing and great tactical play. The second half showed some more great football with Calne sinking a couple themselves. One of which was send from outside the box like a rocket in to the top centre of the goal, denying the keeper any chance to stop that one. The replies came from the colts like cries of battle with Ryan dropping one in from the right wing. We all thought he was about to cross but everyone was marked so he took the shoot. Thunderfoot planted it dead centre for an amazing goal. Calne were not to be deterred with some amazing breaks, Stopped mostly by Cole in defence, He appeared on almost every break, in fact, I’m not convinced Gary hasn't had him cloned and put two or three Coles on the pitch ! !! Both teams took their opportunities to shine this morning with some outstanding football, exemplary behaviour from the parents cheering evenly for either effort was also nice to see. At The Colts home ground it says "Let them play". Today, they really did. Well done to both sides for some excellent football. Special Mention today to Ryan for some great shooting, Cole for his unstoppable determination in defence saving the Colts a good few attacks i’m sure. And for Ben for some courageous and unwavering tackles.
James ready for the tackle and Ben ready to receive. |
