U14 Malmesbury 6-6 CCCFC Print
Season 14/15 - Under 14

A truly remarkable match took place this morning, it was a non stop end to end game played in a great spirit despiteĀ an unfortunate red card for the colts, both managers agreeing common sense might have been the better option.

A slow start gifted Malmesbury the lead after only a minute, the colts soon woke up and responded with 3 goals from James 3min, Eddie 10min & 14min. Malmesbury not to be outdone hit back with goals on 16min & 25min, it was after their 3rd goal that we had the red card incident. Things then went from bad to worse as Malmesbury were correctly awarded a penalty. 4-3 at halftime.

Only 5mins into the 2nd half and Malmesbury got their 5th, in previous seasons the colts would have let their heads drop resulting in a heavy defeat, but not today. They all showed tremendous resilience, energy & enthusiasm to not accept the situation we were in. Matthew got us back in the game with an excellent finish when 1 on 1 with keeper. We should have had a penalty but the ref was the only person to see the infringement as outside the box, however this made little difference to Eddie who absolutely rifled the ball into the top corner to draw us level. The colts continued to defy the odds and deservedly took the lead on 55mins when Toby put a defender under pressure when challenging for the ball from a Matthew cross resulting in an own goal. We had 15mins to see out the game, but unfortunately as the game went on the extra man was starting to tell and Malmesbury nicked an equaliser with only 2mins remaining.

A fantastic effort, thank you and well done to all.

Man of the match: everyone- impossible to choose.

Next game: Marlborough at home on Sunday 12th Oct. 12.30pm kick off.
