MATCH REPORT

FC Calne Vipers U7 v Castle Combe Colts Blacks U7

15 November 2014

CCCFC Blacks kicked off Zone P with a fantastic game against our neighbours from Calne, led impressively by Ruby – our Captain Marvel.

Blacks started the game with Thomas between the posts.  Ruby marshalling the defensive areas and Oliver & Kian in midfield supporting goal machine Ruben up front.

GOAL! Blacks started the game the stronger side and soon took the lead from the tenacious Oliver.

Ruben & Oliver combined well and both went close to adding to our lead.  Kian also went close with a solo run and shot.

Ruby then made sure we maintained our lead with a brace of tackles and powerhouse midfielder Kian also blocked well and turned defence into attack – to set up Ruben, who aimed a speculative long range effort at the Vipers goal that went just wide.

The Vipers were now showing their fangs and attacking the Blacks goal.

Safe hands Thomas then showed his growing assurance in goal with a couple of fine saves, before a sublime equalizer from the Vipers striker with an exquisite lob.

Riley & Ben were then introduced into the centre of midfield, both got stuck in immediately with Riley making his trademark “wrecking ball” like tackles.

Ben was not fazed with the tough tackling that ensued as the Vipers & Blacks tried to gain supremacy.

GOAL! After great interplay between Riley, Ben & Oliver, Ruben was set free and as he bore down on goal he was impeded by the Vipers defender.  However, he got back to his feet and battled his way through before being fouled again.  This time the referee had no alternative but to point to the spot.  Ruben brushed himself down before coolly dispatching the penalty into the top left hand corner.

The game continued in this nip and tuck way between two really really good, well balanced sides.

The Vipers made the last five minutes of the half very uncomfortable for the Blacks.  First Thomas saved well from a chance and then Riley & Ben both bravely blocked an in-swinging corner.

We nearly grabbed another when Ruby was put through, unfortunately she lost her footing on a deteriorating Beversbrook pitch.

The second half saw the resurgent Vipers take the field and take the game to the Colts - after a difficult period we were able to express ourselves once again and replied to the pressure with two quick goals.

GOAL! Ruben struck back with a quality finish against the run of play after some strong tackling from Ruby & Oliver.

GOAL! The Blacks defiantly rolled up their sleeves and refused to lay down to some forceful play by Calne. Riley showed his bull dog spirit by winning the ball back before passing to Kian, who found Ruben free on the right wing.  Ruben took the ball in his stride and smashed the ball home to record his first hatrick for the Blacks.

GOAL! An exchange of passes between Ruby & Ben resulted in Kian charging through.  The guys were really in their stride now..............Kian waited for a challenge before turning inside and releasing Ruben who squeezed the ball between the on rushing keeper and the near post.  An excellent team goal.

Thomas remained resolute and cleared any danger to keep the scores level.

Staunch defending from Riley and quick feet from Oliver set the Blacks on attack again.  This time the outstanding Kian was thwarted in his efforts.

GOAL!  The Blacks  last goal which had the mums nad dads leaping up and down - was stabbed home by Kian after prolific   Ruben was denied his fifth goal by a great save from the Vipers keeper.

The Coach was very proud of the effort and application from the Blacks this morning.  Positional play and game awareness will come with time and training.  A great start! Special thank you to the support coming in waves from the side of the pitch - Thank you.
