U14 Ferndale 1 CCCFC 2 Print
Season 14/15 - Under 14

We played our first game since 2nd Nov today at Ferndale in Swindon and at times during the 1st half it showed, we were very slow in pressing our opponents and some of the tackling was very lightweight. During the first 20mins Ferndale played us off the pitch with some good passing and movement, but fortunately for us they missed some good opportunities to score, we did however look dangerous on the break and it was from a breakaway on 23mins that we took the lead against the run of play when Jamie held the ball up well and laid it off into Eddie's path and he duely struck a fine shot into the bottom corner from outside the box. Jamie & Jake both had good chances to increase our lead, but it wasn't to be. On 30mins we gave away a soft goal from a corner, when a Ferndale player reacted quicker than the colts defenders to poke the ball in. 1-1 at halftime.

Some stern words were needed during the break to gee up the boys and in fairness they responded well with a much better performance, all of a sudden we were winning the tackles, were quicker to the loose ball and started to pass our team mates. We created a lot more chances and should have finished the game off, but it took a freakish effort from Matthew who somehow swerved a great shot and I'm sure aided a little by the wind to deceive the keeper and the ball nestled into the net. Almost immediately the ref awarded a harsh looking penalty to Ferndale after a tackle from Callum, I need not worry as Jasper made a fantastic save and James put in a great challenge on the follow up to keep our fragile lead. Eddie, James, & Jake all had opportunities to make the game safe, but the score remained 2-1. A good 2nd half from all, this is the attitude and effort required fro 70mins. Well done & thank you.

Man of the match: Can't seperate Dan & Eddie, both showed outstanding attitude & effort for the whole game.

Next game: Highworth Town at home on Sunday 14th Dec, kick off 12.30pm
