U13 Worton & Cheveral v CCCFC - 22.03.09 Print
Season 08/09 - Under 13

After a month of not playing a league game - what could be more challenging then an away game to the league leaders.

Combe started off with very scrappy play and seem to have forgotten all the basics of ball possession and closing down opponents on the attack, fortunately Worton also seem to be having an off day.  Midway through the1st half central defender Sam went up for a corner and a quick break by Worton caught the Combe defense. Worton scored against the run of play and were 1-0 up at the break.

A good team talk at haltime brought about a changed Combe side the 2nd half, playing to their potential and dominating the game. The continious pressure on the Worton defense paid off as Casey found himeself free with a shot on goal. A screamer that gave the Worton keeper no chance 1-1. This spured the lads on and Combe were winning the ball in the midfield.  Casey again went close with a 30 yard free kick but then Callum had a strange looping attempt from 40 yards that seem to bouncing awkwardly and over the Worton keeper into the net 2-1 to Combe.

Worton had 2 or 3 late chances but solid defending by Sam and David kept the attack out.

Man of the Match went to Sam and Kieran for the non stop effort.

Combe U13 still have a slight chance of winning the league but will have to rely on Marshfield taking a point off Worton next week.
